My name is Dave Fitz. I was in a car accident. No, I wasn’t driving and nobody was drunk. It was just the wrong car at the wrong time. I was in a coma for 27 days, broke 32 bones and had torn tendentious and ligaments throughout my body. When I woke from the coma, I was diagnosed with T.B.I. (Traumatic Brain Injury). I had the knowledge of a 2-year old with the body functions of a dying person. Doctors told me I would never walk again. I was at the lowest point of my life.
My brother brought his laptop to the hospital one day. We sat up watching some videos on YouTube, but one spoke to me.. “It’s like you have to save your own life, nobody’s going to be able to save it for you. So we have to do what we have to do.” I became OBSESSED with challenges, and trained harder than ever before. I lived in the hospital for almost 3 years, as soon as I got out, I joined a gym.
Through years of training my mind and body, I decided I was ready to take on the world. I am a competitive bodybuilder and have earned the title of Mr. New England! I became so obsessed with the gym, I actually opened one – Total Fitzness Gym! Every day you have the opportunity to reinvent your self. If you want to achieve something important to you, you have to believe in your self. No matter how crazy or extreme your ideas may seem to other people, you have to be convinced you have what it takes. Once you know in your heart this is what you want, then you are going to do great work. The only way to do great work is to love what you do. Everything fits together, just figure out for yourself, what do you love to do? Then go after it as if your life depends on it.
My brother motivates me. When I had given up while being paralyzed in the hospital, he told me I can do anything, and I decided to rise and fight for my life!
The song that motivates me is Vice Grip by Parkway Drive. I look up to Kai Greene for bodybuilding inspiration.
I train to failure, my sets start when the pain is so intense anyone with reason would stop, but I smile and keep pushing.
This is only the beginning. I will not stop until I am one of the best in the world. It’s only a matter of time!
